A first information report has been lodged against the chairman of the Khadi Gramodyog Board, Dayaram Sen, for allegedly using derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi [Images] at a function in Firozabad in November.

District unit president of the Congress Keshav Dev lodged the complaint at the Shikohabad police station on Thursday night, Superintendent of Police V K Garg said.

Sen, who enjoys minister of state status, has been accused of using derogatory words against Gandhi and asking the organisers of the function to throw away his picture on November 2, Garg said.

On November 15, Congress workers, led by UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, had staged a dharna before the Shikohabad police station to press for filing of FIR against Sen.

Over 100 Congressmen including Joshi were detained and later released.

The Congress workers had also threatened to start an agitation from Saturday if the FIR was not filed against Sen.

The issue had also rocked both the houses of the state legislature with the Congress members accusing the government of shielding Sen and demanding action against him.
