Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Friday took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] over his remarks on the former being anointed BJP's prime ministerial candidate, saying he "does not understand politics".
Advani, talking to reporters in Ahmedabad, also said he would not be surprised if the Indo-US nuclear deal is dumped by the government owing to continuous pressure from the Left parties.
Replying to a question on recent remarks of Singh that he has been anointed out of "fear" of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images] taking control of the BJP, Advani said the prime minister made such a statement because "he does not understand politics".
"I would just say that the prime minister is not a political person because a politically aware person cannot make such a comment," he said.
"I am glad Singh has accepted by making this statement that Modi is unbeatable in Gujarat," the BJP leader, who represents Gandhinagar constituency in the Lok Sabha, said.
In the wake of consistent threats by CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat asking the government not to go ahead with the nuclear pact, the BJP leader said there is likelihood of the prime minister deciding to dump the deal.
"I would not be surprised if the Indo-US nuclear agreement is thrown into the dustbin by the UPA government. This is because the allies of the Congress in the UPA have indicated that they do not want early elections. If he chooses to heed the Left's threat, he will surely invite a serious credibility crisis upon himself."
