The flood situation in Bihar continued to be grim with seven more deaths reported across the state, taking the toll in the current spell of floods to 285.

State Disaster Management Department sources said the seven deaths were reported from Khagaria (6) and Munger (1).

In all, Samastipur accounted for the maximum of 55 deaths followed by 51 each in east Champaran and Darbhanga, 35 in Muzaffarpur, 22 in Khagaria and 19 in Sitamarhi.

Ten people each perished in Begusarai, Saharsa and Bhaganlpur, while four persons lost their lives in West
Champaran, seven in Madhubani, five in Katihar, one each in Nalanda and Munger and four in Madhepura.

Over 15 million people continue to face hardships like acute shortage of milk, vegetables and fuel in 7,365 villages in 20 districts.

Standing crops of Rs 271.00 crore, houses worth Rs 110.07 crore and public property worth around Rs 43.90 crore have been destroyed by floods this time.

Indian Air Force helicopters pressed into service for airdropping of food packets were grounded in Patna following inclement weather conditions.

According to the Central Water Commission, all major rivers, including Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Burhi Gandak and Adhwara group of rivers were maintaining rising trends following heavy rains in their catchments areas since Tuesday.

Most of these rivers were flowing above danger marks at various points along their course in the state.
