A Hyderabad court on Monday directed the police to investigate into allegations against the Congress for insulting the national flag at a function in May.

First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Prameela Reddy was hearing a petition filed by Prabhakar, an advocate, who alleged that the All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi [Images] and AP Congress Committee chief K Keshava Rao had violated the provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act by publishing images of Congress leaders on national flag and pasting them on walls as part of publicity campaign.  

The petitioner alleged that the Lal Bahadur Stadium, the venue for the Rededication Day celebrations on May 14, was decorated with the Tricolour carrying the chakra and hand symbol in the middle. This was an insult to the national flag, he argued.

It may be recalled that the Rededication Day fete was organised to mark the completion of three years of the Congress government in the state. The meeting was addressed by AICC general secretary in charge of AP affairs Digvijay Singh and Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, among others.

The court referred the matter to the Saifabad police and instructed them to submit a report before September 28.
