A decision on the controversial CD by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh would be taken soon, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said in Lucknow on Friday night.
His remarks came at a press conference when asked whether the EC would give its decision on the allegedly inflammatory CD before the elections are over.
Taking a serious note of the omission of the names of Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Salman Khursheed and his wife-candidate Louis from voters' list in the elections, Gopalaswami said action would be taken against officials found guilty of the lapse.
He said officials have been strictly instructed to ensure such a lapse does not recur.
"We are looking into the matter and action would be taken," Gopalaswami told reporters here after reviewing the poll preparations for the 57 assembly constituencies going to the polls in the fifth phase on April 28.
On complaints that even the names of many people having Electoral Photo Identity Cards were found missing from the voters list, Gopalswami admitted that despite a stretched exercise to update the voters' list some discrepancies were still left but said they were negligible.
To a question, Gopalswami said certain political parties have lodged complaints against some officials that their workers were being forced to remove party flags and suitable action would follow after examining the complaints.
He, however, refused to disclose the names of the officials saying you will come to know when action would be taken against them.
About complaints against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for violating the model code of conduct and his reported objectionable speeches, Gopalswami said "we are examining them".
The CEC, who reviewed the poll preparedness for the assembly seats spread over nine districts along with his full team expressed satisfaction on implementation of the Commission's directives saying barring a few constituencies directions have been enforced.
"Where some shortcomings were still left, officials have been asked to rectify them immediately,'' he added.
