The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Amardeep Singh Gill who was sentenced to four years in prison by the Delhi High Court in the Jessica Lal murder case.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan allowed the release of Gill alias Tony on bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and a surety of the same amount.

The Bench has directed him to surrender his passport.

Gill was convicted for destroying evidence related to the case.

Meanwhile, the court also fixed July 17 to hear the appeal filed by Manu Sharma, the main accused who is challenging his conviction and life sentence given by the High Court.

Manu, son of senior Congress leader Venod Sharma was held guilty for killing Lal at a South Delhi restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani on the intervening night of April 29-30, 1999.

Vikas Yadav, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav was also convicted and sentenced to four years imprisonment for destroying evidence. The court has already rejected his bail plea.
