United States President George W Bush [Images] has invited Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images] and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai for an iftar party at the White House.

Musharraf, before leaving for a three-nation tour that will take him to Belgium, Cuba and the US, told reporters in Islamabad on Monday that the iftar party has its own significance.

"That has its own significance of resolving our problems between Pakistan and Afghanistan, misunderstanding between Pakistan and Afghanistan," he said.

"We have already resolved our misunderstandings between Afghanistan and Pakistan during the recent visit to the neighbouring country. But maybe we consolidate that further, while we meet again with President Bush, so that in the future we have a concerted strategy and we trust each other in our fight against terrorism and extremism," he added.

The meeting of the three leaders in US comes days after a deal between Islamabad and militants in the restive tribal regions in Waziristan that neigbours Afghanistan, which has ruffled feathers in Kabul.

Afghanistan had been saying that Pakistan harboured Taliban militants who were launching deadly attacks through the porous border, a charge denied by Islamabad.

During his visit to Kabul last week, Musharraf said Afghanistan should not blame Pakistan for what is happening in its territory. A resurgent Taliban has been launching suicide attacks on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and US troops in Afghanistan recently.
