In a major haul of explosives on Sunday, police seized a huge quantity of detonators, gelatine and ammonium nitrate in Khardi locality off Mumbai-Nashik highway in neighbouring Thane district, a top police official said.

A consignment of 29 boxes of detonators each containing 50 pieces, 11 boxes of gelatin, each containing 25kg, 75 pieces of wire and five bags of ammonium nitrate, each containing 50 kg, was seized in Tembha village off the highway, Thane rural superintendent of police Archana Tyagi told PTI.

The seizure, acting on a tip-off, was made Sunday morning and a case was registered at 4pm, Tyagi said adding no arrests have been made in the case as yet.

Unidentified persons were transporting the explosives in a vehicle when the police team intercepted them at 1000 hours.
"The vehicle was a Nasik-registered Bolero and the occupants fled when they saw us," Tyagi said.
