ABVP workers staged a hunger strike on Monday demanding withdrawal of 'false' cases instituted by the Madhya Pradesh [Images] government against its leaders.

The cases pertain to death of Prof H S Sabharwal in violence during college union elections in Ujjain.

ABVP activists, led by its state secretary Bharat Pareikh, staged the day-long hunger strike in front of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence and shouted slogans in favour of their leaders Shashiranjan Akela and Vimal Tomar.

The protestors claimed the leaders were framed for murder on the basis of some television channels showing them entering into heated discussions with another professor M L Nath.

ABVP workers also demanded a CID probe into an alleged attack on Nath during a staff council meeting that decided to cancel polls at Madhav College before Sabharwal died after being assaulted on August 26.
