He was produced before judicial magistrate first class R S Madia by CID, which is probing the case, following which he was sent to the judicial custody.
Tomar was in police custody after being arrested late in August, while another accused in the case, ABVP state President, Shashiranjan Akela, is already in 15-day judicial remand.
Sabharwal had died after being attacked by unruly students following cancellation of student union election at Madhav College in Ujjain in August.
Both Akela and Tomar were formally arrested by state CID for their alleged role in the murder of Professor Sabharwal on August 26, following a complaint lodged by college peon, Komal Singh Sengar.
The duo had initially surrendered to the police for allegedly manhandling another college Professor M L Nath during the student union polls. Following their identification by the peon, they were arrested and booked for murder.
