The government's efforts to contain the spread of dengue appears to have less impact as 94 fresh cases of the viral were reported in Delhi on Wednesday.

With the death of Bareilly-based Rohit Sharma, who was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in a critical condition on Tuesday, the death toll in Delhi is now 40, health officials said.

Ninety-four patients suffering from the mosquito-borne disease were admitted to various hospitals in Delhi, including 27 at the AIIMS, as the number of dengue patients in Delhi rose to 1,731.

The Delhi government has asked the MCD to chalk out an action plan to "holistically" combat resurgence of the vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria in the national capital.
