Late Prof H S Sabharwal's son Himanshu has sought change of the prosecution counsel saying he did not expect justice as the government lawyer and the accused have links with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Six Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers have been arrested on the charge of murdering Prof Sabharwal during students' violence at Madhav College on August 26.

Himanshu told UNI on Friday that he had handed over a letter to Ujjain Collector Neeraj Mandloi requesting to engage a lawyer of his choice instead of the government lawyer.

"The government lawyer appearing in the murder case and the accused belong to the same political party," he said, suggesting that they engage senior lawyer Kailash Nagar as the special public prosecutor.

At present, the case is handled by district public prosecutor Vikram Singh Sikarwar.

Citing an example, he pointed out that in the BJP leader Pramod Mahajan murder case, a lawyer of the Mahajan family's choice was engaged.

The District Collector assured him that a decision will be taken after consulting legal experts, Himanshu said.
