Chinese President Hu Jintao and his South Korean counterpart Roh Moo-hyun held talks on Friday, reaching important 'consensus' on the North Korean nuclear issue, the state media reported.

Hu and Roh had a 40-minute close-door meeting before the official talks in the Great Hall of the People.

After the meeting, Hu said that he exchanged views with Roh on bilateral relations and other regional and international issues, including the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

They have reached important consensus on the issues, Hu was quoted as saying by the Xinhua news agency. However, no details were provided.

The two sides are expected to discuss how to resume the stalled six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear issue at an early date and find ways to handle the sensitive issue.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao had said that the country was opposed to any military action against North Korea.

Meanwhile, Roh has said that his visit to China, which signifies closer bilateral ties, has 'some special meanings'.

"South Korea and China are now facing an important opportunity and the two nations have maintained close consultation and cooperation to resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue," he said, expressing hope to further strengthen the cooperation.
