Two persons, who are accused in the July 11 train bombings, were arrested afresh on Tuesday for their alleged role in the blasts at Malegaon on September 8, Anti-Terrorist Squad sources said.

Shaikh Mohammad Ali and Asif Khan Bashir Khan, alias Junaid, were produced by ATS before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act court, which remanded them to police custody till November 24.

According to an ATS official, both are suspected to have played an active role in the Malegaon blasts that killed 31 people.

They were arrested after their names came up during the interrogation of other accused persons.

They said seven bombs that went off in commuter trains on July 11 were assembled at Mohammad Ali's residence at Shivaji Nagar in northeast Mumbai.

Junaid is said to be the key conspirator in that case and had provided logistical support.

With this, the number of arrests in the Malegaon case has risen to seven.

Five persons, including Mohammad Ali's neighbour Salman Farsi, were arrested earlier.

The other arrested men are Noorul Huda Samsudhoa, Shabbir Ahmed Masiullah, Faruq Iqbal Ahmed Magdumi and Shabbir Batteryawalla.

Around 300 people were also injured when four blasts rocked Malegaon in Nashik district on September 8.
