One person was killed in police firing during a clash with stone-pelting Dalit activists who were enforcing a shutdown in Amravati district of Maharashtra on Tuesday, police said.

Police had earlier in the day resorted to a baton-charge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse an unruly group of protesters during the bandh called by some Dalit organisations to protest the killing of four members of a Dalit family at Khairlanji village in Bhandara district recently.

The protesters allegedly indulged in stone pelting near the divisional commissionarate, police said.
