Noted film actor Anil Kapoor [Images] and celebrated director Govind Nihalani supported Aamir Khan's [Images] views on the Sardar Sarovar project which was not to the liking of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images]. Aamir Khan's film Fanaa [Images] has not been allowed to be screened by protestors in Gujarat who burnt posters and banners of the film where it was due to be exhibited.
"Aamir Khan has been a great friend of mine, but I do not know much about the Narmada Andolan. However I have kept myself informed about the developments concerning Aamir Khan. We are living in a democratic country and we have a right to say what we feel. Aamir had aired his views on the displacement of people in Narmada and time and again he has clarified that he is not against the dam or the people of Gujarat. I am with him on this issue and I fully support him," Anil Kapoor said in response to a question from rediff.com.
Kapoor has become the brand ambassador of Plan India to plege his support for child's first identity and addressed a press conference in New Delhi along with Govind Nihalani to emphasise the importance of registration of a child after his birth so that he gets his identity.
"Neither Anil nor myself have taken any money for doing this campaign which is going to hit the television media, cinema houses, and as reminders of the importance of birth certificates," Nihalani told rediff.com.
"Since children still love me as Mr India therefore it would be easy for to relate to them," Kapoor said.
Talking about ban on the exhibition of Fanaa in Gujarat, Nihalani hit out at the protestors. "As Anil has said that Aamir is not against the dam nor against Gujaratis. He merely expressed his views on the displacement of people in Narmada, which is Madhya Pradesh where thousands of people still need to be rehabilitated. Sure we support him on this," Nihalani said.
He hoped to do a full length feature film with Anil Kapoor at some stage. "Insha Allah, we would work together soon. I cannot give him a character like that," Nihalani said.
