There are indications that Sanjay Joshi, who on Thursday received a clean chit from the Madhya Pradesh police in the CD scandal, may return to active politics.

Ruling out the possibility of Joshi returning as a pracharak (full-time campaigner) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party said that he was likely to be made senior functionary again in the party.

The day after being absolved, Joshi seemed to make the right gestures. On Friday morning, Joshi visited Smruti Mandir in Reshimbag in Nagpur, where memorials of the first two RSS chiefs - Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar alias 'Guruji' - stand.

He then went straight to the RSS headquarters, where he was closeted with some functionaries of the outfit for nearly an hour. However, it was not clear whether any of the top functionaries of the RSS were present in the headquarters at the time. Later, Joshi visited the local BJP office.

Joshi remained the quintessential disciplined soldier of the RSS, refusing to speak to the media at the BJP office. When newsmen said they would not ask him any questions and requested him to say 'whatever he wanted,' Joshi merely repeated the prepared statement that he had made before the media on Thursday.
