Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] Friday promised that he will take up the issue of the death sentence awarded to Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, with the Pakistan government.

The prime minister gave this assurance to Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit, who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in a bomb explosion case. Sarabjit's first review petition against the lower courts sentence was turned down by the Pakistan Supreme Court last month.

Dalbir Kaur along with Swapandeep and Poonam, daughters of the condemned prisoner met Dr Singh at the Cicuit House. The weeping daughters of Sarabjit pleaded before him to save their father from the gallows.

Dalbir Kaur said ''I am a daughter of Punjab, please save my brother''.

Moved by the gesture of the sister and daughters of Sarabjit, said ''I personally spoke to President Pervez Musharraf [Images] twice in the past about Sarabjit's case and now again I will talk to him''.

According to Dalbir Kaur, the prime minister has also agreed to write an official letter to the Pakistan government on Sarabjit's case.
