After a long dry spell, heavy rains lashed Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
Central parts of the state, especially Rewa, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Sagar divisions, received heavy rainfall, the meteorological office said in Bhopal, adding that several villages were inundated in Mandla district due to flooding in the Narmada River.
People living in low-lying areas and in villages located on river banks were evacuated to safer places and the district administration was in the process of setting up special relief camps in rest houses and schools with adequate food and medical facilities, they said, adding that no loss of life had been reported so far.
Several schools in the state declared a holiday as traffic was disrupted due to inundation of low-lying areas.
