Political figures in Maharashtra are under the police scanner for their 'suspicious' activities and action will be taken against them at an appropriate time, state police chief P S Pasricha said in Mumbai on Wednesday.
"Unki harkate theek nahin hain (Their activities do not seem to be right)," he told media persons, adding that the police was keeping a close watch on these political figures. However, he did not give details about the figures.
Pasricha also did not clarify whether the figures were suspected to be involved in subversive or criminal activities in the state.
The police chief dodged a query on a media report, which claimed that a south Mumbai politician having considerable clout in a minority community was under the scanner of Intelligence agencies for his suspected role in Tuesday's serial blasts in suburban trains.
The report quoted Intelligence sources as saying that the politician could have instigated the blasts in retaliation for a recent strife in a minority-dominated area of Thane district. Intelligence Bureau sources, however, told PTI that the politician was under the scanner for his alleged involvement in transferring money from foreign countries to India through illegal channels.
