The Congress on Sunday made it clear that it is willing to have an alliance with Trinamool Congress if it severs ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"We have no problem in entering into (seat) adjustments with Trinamool Congress, provided she (Ms Mamata Banerjee) parts company with the Bharatiya Janata Party and National Democratic Alliance," Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said at a news conference.

Answering questions, he rejected the contention that alliances led to contradictions. Citing an instance, he said the Congress was defeated by Left Democratic Front candidates in Kerala [Images] in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections and the same members have extended support to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
