Sonia Gandhi unveils pylon in memory of Congress workers

All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi [Images] Saturday unveiled a pylon in memory of Congress workers who dedicated their lives for the cause of national reconstruction in the post-independence era.

Sonia, who arrived the city to attend the three-day 82nd Congress plenary, unveiled the 30-ft pylon at Nanal Nagar crossroads where the Congress plenary was held under the presidentship of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953.

The pylon depicts Mahatma Gandhi [Images], Indira Gandhi [Images] and Rajiv Gandhi besides illustrating the first war of Independence, irrigation projects, Dandi march and Nehru's address to the nation on the occasion of the first Independence Day.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images], Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, AICC general secretary Mothilal Vora, state PCC president K Keshava Rao were also present.
