Indian security agencies at Sir Creek area in the border district of Kutch are keeping a close watch on a canal that Pakistan has dug in its territory recently, police sources said on Saturday.

Indian security officials are aware of the two kilometre long U-shaped canal and though no security threat is posed, a watch  is being kept in the region, Kutch police said.

"The canal, called harami nullah, has its mouth in Pakistani territory and has no link with India at all. I have consulted with the Border Security Force, Gujarat and they say there is nothing to fear", Kutch district collector P N Sharma told PTI.

He said that the Sir Creek region is constantly under surveillance of Indian security personnel, including local police, BSF and even the Coast Guard.

The Sir Creek region is a bottleneck belt between the two countries and has been under constant debate over security issues.
