Hours after Manu Sharma was convicted of murder in the Jessica Lal [Images] case, the residence of the high-profile family in Chandigarh wore a deserted look.

While the two sugar mills, theatre, two hotels and a pub owned by Manu's father, Congress leader, Venod Sharma carried business as usual, silence prevailed at the official as well as private residence of the Congress leader.

The normal stream of visitors at the official residence was not found on Monday.

The guard deployed at the official residence of Sharma adjacent to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's residence said, "Nobody is around at present."

A waiter at the pub owned by the Sharma family in the heart of the city, said, "Manu has not visited the Blue Ice pub here for many months".

Friends of Manu, on condition of anonymity, recalled that he threw a series of parties after his acquittal in the case in February.

Sources said that the two sugar mills -- at Patran (Patiala) and Bhadson (Karnal) -- carried out business as usual.

The renovation work at the private residence of Sharma in a sector in the city continued as usual.
