The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed a spat between Leader of the Opposition L K Advani and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee over the Arunachal issue after the minister said discussions on the boundary problem were underway and there will be some adjustments.

The minister also questioned the BJP's contention of why government was entering into negotiations when a state has been declared an integral part of the country.

"If it becomes the condition that it has been declared as an integral part of the country, then it is not negotiable... then there is no point in having discussions on Jammu and Kashmir [Images] because this House has passed a resolution declaring it as the integral part of India," he argued.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the leader of the opposition said the Chinese Ambassador to India had, on the eve of President Hu Jintao's visit, said Arunachal Pradesh is a part of China and made another controversial statement that the two countries were actively negotiating portions of the northeastern state.

Advani wanted a reassurance from the government that Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable part of India and demanded that the Chinese envoy Sun Yuxi be summoned by the external affairs ministry and told that government has taken serious exception to his two statements.

Mukherjee said he had clarified the government position soon after Sun's remarks and made it clear that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and this question was not debatable.
