India on Tuesday gifted 15 ambulances and six school buses to schools, hospitals and social organizations in Nepal to mark its 60th Independence Day.

India's Ambassador Shiv Shanker Mukherjee handed over the keys of 13 ambulances and six school buses to the representatives of organizations at a function organised at the Indian Embassy in Kahmandu.

Two ambulances were handed over to the concerned organizations by Consul General of India in Birgunj.

Similarly, the ambassador also presented books worth about Rs three lakh to 15 educational institutions and libraries situated in different parts of the country, including Kathmandu, Pokhara and Morang.

In a sweet gesture of reciprocation, Border Security Force gifted a bucket of sweets to their Pakistani counterparts at the Indo-Pak Joint Check Post in Wagah.

The exchange of gifts between the forces of the neighboring nations is a long-standing tradition to mark their respective anniversaries of Independence Day. Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day on Monday.

The International JCP Wagha on Indian side, on this occasion, was tastefully decorated on the either sides.

BSF Deputy Inspector General A K Sarolia himself handed over the bucket of traditional Indian sweets and dry fruits to the Commander of the Pakistani Rangers. BSF officials said that Pakistan Rangers Brig Tareen along with the other Pakistani officers had gifted a bucket of sweets and fruits of Pakistan traditional items on JCP to Indian BSF counterparts on the occasion of anniversary of Independence Day of Pakistan.

Surrounding village dwellers assembled around to watch the rare gesture of goodwill between the two nations.
