With flood waters receding from several parts of Maharashtra after a respite in rainfall, the situation has improved, state Disaster Management Control said on Thursday.

Flood waters in 175 talukas, 5259 villages and eight cities in 29 districts have started receeding, they said, adding that the situation was under control.

The state control also said that around 219 persons were killed in rain-related incidents in the last five days, while 11 persons were missing.

The sources said 19,000 cusecs of water was discharged from Gangapur dam, 12,000 cusecs from Darna dam, 34,000 cusecs from Palkhed, 1,65,000 from Nandur-Madhmeshwar in and around Nasik and 5,100 cusecs from Vishnupuri project in Nanded into Godavari at 10 am.

In Nasik, several villages including Chandori, Saykheda, Antapur, Sundarnagar and Nimbola were still submerged and the administration, as well as social organisations, were providing food-packets and drinking water to the people, official sources said.

On Wednesday night, 19,500 cusecs of water was released from Gangapur dam, they said, adding that senior government officials were monitoring the flood situation.

Meanwhile train services on the Western Railway section between Maharashtra and Gujarat, which were paralysed due to flooding of the tracks, have also been restored on Thursday, WR sources said.
