A public interest litigation filed in the Bombay high court has sought to restrain Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan [Images] from developing and constructing a building on a plot behind his bungalow 'Mannat', a heritage structure in Bandra, Mumbai, which was originally reserved for an art gallery.

The PIL, filed by a Bandra resident Cyril Mecwan, said the bungalow is a heritage structure and cannot be renamed as done by the actor.

Khan had purchased the bungalow 'Land's End' in 2000 and renamed it as 'Mannat', Mecwan said.

The Maharashtra government should cancel and revoke its notification de-reserving the plot, which was originally dereserved for the art gallery, the petition filed last week mentioned.

A building, an extenstion to the heritage bungalow, is under construction on the plot, he claimed adding, no new construction should be allowed in the vicinity of 'Mannat'.

The petitioner also said that the plot was de-reserved by the government in 2003 after which it was sold to the actor while a previous notification in 1994 had reserved the plot for construction of an art gallery.

The case would come up for hearing on October 5.
