PM to host dinner for Musharraf in New York

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh [Images] will make a presentation on India to the 60th plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly at New York on September 14.

Apart from this, the other important events that the prime minister will be addressing include the lauching of the United Nations Democracy Fund, which was initiated by the United States last year and which had been suppoorted by India.

The fund will be launched by US President George W Bush [Images] in the presence of Dr Singh and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

The other important bilateral meetings are with Chinese Prime Minister Hu Jintao, Russian President Vladimir Putin [Images] and South African President Mbeki.

Besides, the prime minister will also host a dinner for Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images] on September 14.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said on Friday that Musharraf had accepted India's invitation. He also did not rule out the possibility of a summit meeting between Bush and Dr Singh.

Prime Minister Singh leaves on a two-nation tour on Sunday to France [Images] and the US. In France, he would be meeting President Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister M Dominic Villepin.
