India and China are trying to implement the common consensus reached on the vexed border issue, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday.

He pointed out that the current good momentum in Sino-Indian relations was hard earned.

Briefing newsmen on the meeting between Wen and External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh in Moscow [Images] on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Fourth Meeting of prime ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said the meeting went off well.

"The two leaders held sincere and friendly discussions. The two leaders expressed happiness about the developments in bilateral relations," Kong said.

"Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao specially noted that Sino-Indian relations maintain a good trend of development which is hard earned," he said.

Wen said special representatives of the two countries on the border issue have also held six rounds of talks and are trying to implement the common consensus reached by them.

"We are good neighbours and good friends and the relations of strategic partnership oriented towards peace and prosperity suit not only the interests of our two countries but are also beneficial for the people of the region and the world," the Chinese premier said.

Singh told Wen that India is prepared to work together with China to continuously expand and deepen India-China relations of friendship in all the areas, the spokesman said.

India has the observer status at SCO, a Beijing-based regional security organisation, which comprises of Russia [Images], China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, a senior Chinese communist party leader on Thursday left for India as part of the efforts of the two governments to increase mutual understanding and cooperation between the two neighbours.

The high-level delegation from the ruling Communist Party of China left for India, Thailand and Cambodia.

The delegation, headed by Liu Yunshan, a member of the politburo of the CPC Central Committee, will visit New Delhi at the invitation of the Indian government and hold talks with senior Indian leaders on bilateral ties and other issues of mutual interest, sources here said.
