Amidst the rumblings in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the chief minister's post, Congress in Madhya Pradesh Monday demanded convening of a special assembly session and asked Chief Minister Babulal Gaur to prove his majority.
"We have requested Governor Balram Jakhar to convene a special assembly session and ask Gaur to prove majority," state Congress spokesman Manak Agrawal told PTI.
"With the legislators turning against him, Gaur has completely lost support," Agarwal claimed.
"Around 112 MLAs have raised their voice against Gaur and demanded a change of guard," leader of opposition Jamuna Devi claimed in a statement in Bhopal.
"An extraordinary political and constitutional crisis has been created in the state after the revolt by ruling party MLAs," she said adding, work of the administration and government has come to a standstill.
"In order to run the state government constitutionally, it is necessary that Gaur prove his majority on the floor of the House," Devi said.
The Congress' demand came soon after supporters of Uma Bharti publicly said they wanted her to return as the chief minister.
