Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian on death row in Pakistan, on Monday appealed to External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh to take up her brother's case with Pakistani authorities during his current visit.

"Natwar Singhji is in Pakistan and we are confident that he will take up the case of Sarabjit in his talks with the authorities there," Dalbir told reporters in New Delhi.

Dalbir, who will meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi [Images] on Wednesday, will also seek an audience with President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images].

'Sarabjit sentence was due to bias'

"He (Natwar Singh) took up the case when he went to New York last month. How can he forget Sarabjit in Pakistan?" she asked. 

She has also renewed her visa request with the Pakistan High Commission, which had earlier rejected her application.

Dalbir, a former Congress worker, however, rejected suggestions that her political loyalty could influence the government's efforts to secure her brother's release.

"I don't think that by staying in Congress, I would have been able to achieve any more than what I have so far," said Dalbir, who recently joined BJP after 26 years of her association with Congress.
