The gold palanquin, carrying the holy Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib, would cross the Joint Check Post at the International Border at Wagah near Amritsar [Images] Tuesday enroute to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, about 75 km from Lahore [Images], to be placed in the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikh religion.
Workers of Punjab and Benaras, having long experience in gold plating and floral designs at many religious places, have prepared the palanquin at the instance of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
With a frame made of teakwood, more than 15 kg of gold has been fitted on it under the supervision of Baba Jagtar Singh.
Earlier the installation was to be done on October 24, but due to the devastating earthquake in the region on October 8 the ceremony was postponed to November 30.
The Golden Palki is to be brought from Delhi to Amritsar where after a night's stay at the Golden Temple, the participants in the procession would cross the Wagah border tomorrow.
A religious function would be held at Gurdwara Janamsthan in Nankana Sahib on November 30 for the installation of the palanquin, according to the DSGMC chief Paramjit Singh Sarna.
At the Wagah border, chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab province Parvez Elahi is likely to welcome the procession. His counterpart of Indian Punjab Amarinder Singh would be present at the presentation ceremony at Gurdwara Janamstham in Nankana Sahib on Wednesday.
