Two senior judges were killed in a powerful bomb blast in Jhalkathi, southern Bangladesh Monday, a day after the conclusion of the 13th SAARC summit in Dhaka.

The police said the bomb was thrown at a minibus, carrying the judges from their houses to the Jhalkathi court.

Judge Sohel Ahmed died on the spot while his colleague Jagannath Pandey died on way to the hospital.

A person was arrested for the blast, but his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The attack came at a time when authorities had started relaxing the security following the conclusion of the summit Sunday.

The government had issued red alert in capital Dhaka and put the entire state on high security alert to ensure peaceful holding of the SAARC summit.

On August 17, outlawed militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh had launched simultaneous bomb attacks at government offices and courts in 63 districts, leaving two people dead.

The second blast was triggered at the courts in three districts in southeastern Bangladesh in early October that killed two people.

The government banned three militant outfits -- Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh led by Bangla Bhai, Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh led by Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Harkatul Jihad led by Mufti Hannan.

Bangla Bhai and Shaikh Rahman are absconding while Mufti Hannan was arrested recently.

More than 400 activists of JMB were arrested for the serial bombings on August 17.
