Asserting that the Sino-Indian peace and tranquility agreement is holding along the 4,000-km border, Army Chief General J J Singh on Thursday said if the trend continued, more confidence-building measures, including troop reduction, could be considered.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an army seminar on information warfare, General Singh said the two armies may soon hold joint exercises in counter-terrorism and prepare for United Nations peacekeeping operations.
While saying the guns were silent across the McMahon Line along the Himalayan frontier, the army chief said there were few aberrations for which a mechanism has been institutionalised.
He said these minimal cases were due to differences in perception in alignment of the Line of Actual Control.
"We hope that once detailed maps are exchanged in all the three sectors - western, eastern and central, these issues will be resolved," General Singh added.
