The grandson of a woman who was run over by a car driven by Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's personal assistant Ravindra Mhatre on Wednesday demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the Maharashtra government.
Manish, the grandson of Leela Mashelkar, submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh demanding he be paid the compensation. He also sought action against two senior police officers for their alleged 'double standards'.
Manish alleged Joint Commissioner of Police Ahmed Javed and Deputy Commissioner of Police Bipin Kumar Singh have been biased in their approach towards the case.
Mhatre was arrested on March 27 in connection with the death of two women after his car hit them at suburban Vile Parle. He was later released by a local court on bail on a surety of Rs 20,000.
The test results of his blood sample showed he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police on Tuesday booked Mhatre under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act for allegedly driving under the influence of liquor. The police have also charged him under various sections of the Mumbai Prohibition Act.
He was earlier booked for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
