Sushma Poudel, the daughter of former Deputy Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Central Committee member Ramchandra Poudyal, who has been in Tanahu Prison following the February 1 power grab by the monarchy, says her father suffers from chest pain and a toothache.

However, the local administration has not allowed private doctors for check-ups inside the prison, and Poudel is being treated by a junior government doctor, she said.

The Nepal People's Front too has demanded treatment facilities for its chairman Amik Sherchan and vice-chairman Lilamani Pokhrel, who have been in custody under the Public Security Act.

The Leftist leaders suffer from various ailments including gall-stone, kidney and nerve problems and need immediate medical attention, said the party's office secretary Himlal Puri.

Earlier, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala's family members had also complained that the ailing leader was not allowed to see his personal physician or meet family members.
