Irked over the lack of hygiene at the government guest house in Indore, Chief Justice of India Justice R C Lahoti left the Residency Kothi a few minutes after he checked in and spent the night at his daughter's residence in Mahesh Nagar, a senior government officer said on Friday.

"The CJI complained of lack of hygiene, stinking towels and unkempt toiletries at the Residency Kothi on Thursday before leaving the VIP room of the guest house to spend the night at his daughter's residence," Indore District Collector Vivek Agrawal told PTI.

"Soon after he left the guest house, I and other senior officials rushed to Justice Lahoti. He asked us to improve the conditions at the Residency Kothi," he added.

Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, S C Garg is looking into the matter, the collector said.

"We are trying to find out the person responsible for the lack of hygiene and unkempt rooms," Garg said.

Justice Lahoti was in Indore to attend his niece's wedding.
