Bangladeshi border guards arrested four Indians who were allegedly trying to enter Bangladesh on Friday with arms and ammunition, a border official said.

The guards challenged the group in the Jokiganj area along the Bangladesh-India border in Sylhet district, 190 km northeast of the capital, Dhaka, said Lt Col Reza.

He said the guards seized rifles, revolvers, grenades and mobile phones from the men. Further details were not immediately available.

Bangladesh and India share a porous border 4,056 km long.

New Delhi has long claimed that separatist militants from India have set up bases in Bangladesh to carry out attacks in support of insurgents, who have been battling the Indian military in the country's northeastern states for decades. Bangladesh denies the allegation.
