The Madhya Pradesh [Images] government on Friday decided to ban cell phones in government and aided schools.

Both parents and students complained of their misuse and the distractions they created, said School Education Minister Dhal Singh Bisen.

The ban will be applicable to both students and teachers, he said, adding that strict action would be taken against violators.

Bisen added that several private schools have already implemented the ban. "We will also ensure that invigilators during examinations don't carry mobiles," the minister said.

There is a similar ban in Delhi [Images], Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
