Former Youth Congress president Randeep Singh Surjewala is understood to have told the party high command that he had not authorised Jagat Singh, son of Natwar Singh, to represent the Youth Congress in Iraq.
In a letter to the All India Congress Committee, Surjewala, who is now a Haryana minister, has told the party leadership that Jagat Singh, who was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Iraqi oil payoffs, was not authorised to represent the Youth Congress for entering into any commercial transactions, party sources said.
Surjewala also said Friday, "My stand is clear that nobody was authorised ever to work in Iraq or send any delegation in that country."
Jagat Singh had claimed before the ED that his visit to Iraq was officially sanctioned by Surjewala.
