Maha working out package for worst affected villages: Sonia

The Maharashtra government is working out a package for the worst-affected villages of the state in the recent floods, Congress president Sonia Gandhi [Images] said in Narsingwadi on Saturday.

During a visit to Narsingwadi village in Shirol taluka of Kolhapur district, one of the worst-affected areas, she assured the people that the state government would provide all assistance to them.

Sonia, who was accompanied by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Marketing Minister Harshwardhan Patil, asked the former to look into the complaints of the people, who had suffered heavy losses in the recent floods.

The United Progressive Alliance chairperson, who was earlier scheduled to visit Takaliwadi, cancelled her programme and visited the Shirol village. She interacted with the residents, who narrated their harrowing experineces to her.
