A Muzaffarnagar court on Friday adjourned till September 3 the hearing in a defamation case filed against Imrana, who was allegedly raped by her father-in-law, by another daughter-in-law of the accused Ali Mohammed.

First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate D S Saxena fixed September 3 for hearing petitioner Munazra Begum's statement regarding the case.

Munazra Begum filed the case contending that Imrana's reported statement that the daughters-in-law of the family were raped by Mohammed were defamatory. Imrana, a 28-year-old mother of five, had accused her father-in-law Ali Mohammed of raping her.

The case had hit the headlines when a local community panchayat passed a verdict asking Imrana to treat her husband as her son and banning her from living with him following the alleged rape.

The police have already filed a chargesheet against Mohammed, who is in judicial custody following denial of bail by a local court.
