Nine persons, including a child, has gone missing after a boat, carrying 19 flood victims and eight army men, capsized in the swollen Krishna river in Kolhapur district, the police has said.

The eight army men had rescued 19 civilians from the flood-hit Rajapur village in the district and were moving towards Akiwat village when the overloaded boat capsized on Friday evening, Assistant Police Inspector Anant Kulkarni told PTI on Saturday.

While the armymen were able to save the lives of 10 persons, they were unable to trace the other nine, he said.

The whereabouts of the nine victims, including five women and a child, who went missing since around 7 pm Friday, was still not known, Kulkarni said.

Earlier, the army men had claimed that only two women and a child were missing from the boat, he added.
