Counsel for Additional Director General of Police R B Sreekumar on Saturday maintained that the officer's diary, where he had recorded incidents during the post-Godhra riots, is "semi-official".

He also said Sreekumar will plead before the Central Administrative Tribunal to summon the chief minister on the state for denying him a promotion.

Sreekumar, the state Intelligence Bureau chief during the initial phase of the post-Godhra riots, had filed a detailed application two weeks ago before the CAT complaining that the government had not promoted him in February, 2005 as he had "refused to toe the government line while deposing before the two-man Godhra inquiry commission".

Producing the controversial diary, in which Sreekumar had recorded purported conversations between him and government officials before the media for the first time, Sreekumar's counsel Anand Yagnik said, "We will see to it that Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images], along with former Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and other respondents are summoned before CAT based on the application filed by us."

Claiming that the diary was not a private one but a "semi-official" one, Yagnik said Modi could be summoned before the Tribunal if he denied the authenticity of the diary.

Yagnik dared the government to call the diary a fake one and said, "There is no question of it being fake. Each page of the 207-page diary has the signature and official seal of the then Inspector General of Police (Administration), O P Mathur."
