Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] on Sunday emphasised that both India and Pakistan had the joint responsibility of controlling terrorist activities to ensure that terrorists are not allowed to derail the peace process.

During his talks with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images], Dr Singh said both the countries had the responsibility of ensuring 'positive movement and positive ambience in the relations' and not allow these to be thwarted by terrorist elements, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran told reporters in New Delhi.

Incidents like the recent terrorist attack on the [Srinagar-Muzaffarabad] bus service could mar the ongoing peace process and, hence, there was a need to control such acts to allow forward movement of the relations between the two countries, Saran quoted the PM as saying.

On the eve of the launch of the bus service, which was flagged off on April 7, terrorists targeted the Tourist Reception Centre in the Jammu and Kashmir [Images] capital where the passengers scheduled to travel to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir by the inaugural bus were housed.

"There are many positive things happening. There may not be complete mutual trust (between the two countries) but we are moving towards that," Saran said. "Terrorism can negatively impact on that process," he added.
