26 new faces in BJP's first list

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday announced its first list of 83 candidates for the October 13 assembly election in Maharashtra.

There are 26 new faces in the list, while six sitting legislators have been dropped.

Prominent among those in the list are state party chief Gopinath Munde and senior leader Eknath Khadse.

The party has also fielded Prasad Hire, Congress leader and former minister Baliram Hire's son.

The next list of 31 candidates will be announced in the next two-three days.

The legislators who faced the axe include Chandrakanta Goyal, wife of former Union minister and party treasurer Ved Prakash Goyal (Matunga), Hemendra Mehta (Borivali).
