Musharraf to visit US for a week from Sept 19

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf will embark on a weeklong visit to the United
States from September 19 during which he will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York and meet world leaders including United States President George W Bush and Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh.
According to reports from Islamabad, Musharraf will arrive in New York on September 19 and address the UN General Assembly on September 22. The same day, he is scheduled to meet Bush, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and Singh.
Keeping up the hectic pace of September 22, he will also pay a brief visit to Washington to address the Pakistani American community there.
It was not yet clear whether Musharraf is meeting Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry, who is contesting the election against Bush.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting, Musharraf is likely to meet the heads of delegations of friendly countries, the Pakistani official news agency APP said.
On September 21, Musharraf will be the chief guest at a function to be hosted by the National Commission for Human Development in New York.
On September 23, Musharraf would deliver the keynote speech at the Council for Foreign Relations in New York and will address a press conference the next day, before departing for home.
Musharraf will also visit the Netherlands for two days from September 24 and Italy from September 26-28.
The details of his schedule in the two countries are still being finalized.
