Veerappan's diary could reveal his secrets

October 29, 2004 17:33 IST

A diary maintained by forest brigand Veerappan, which could throw light on a saga of murders, kidnappings and extortion, was recovered from the scene of last week's encounter in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu.

Veerappan was ambushed and killed by a team led by STF chief K Vijayakumar when the bandit was being driven in an ambulance to a hospital on October 18.

STF's Karnataka chief Jyothi Prakash Mirji said the diary is with the Dharmapuri police, who have taken over the investigations from the STF.

Mirji, however, said he had not seen the contents of the diary.

Many believe that Veerappan's death has left several questions unanswered, particularly allegations of political patronage.
