Voters had turned up in large numbers at voting booths to elect a new government. The trouble started in the morning as news spread that the ink used to mark voters' fingers could be erased easily.
The election commission said the problem existed only at one booth where wrong ink was used.
However, supporters of Yunus Qanooni, the main challenger to President Hamid Karzai, said voting booths in areas where their leader had greater support were not opened in time.
